Putnam County commissioner says Rollins is a servant leader.

Keystone Heights, Fla., June 1, 2020  — Gavin Rollins, Republican candidate for Florida’s third congressional district and Clay County commissioner, today received an endorsement by Larry Harvey, Putnam County commissioner.

Harvey has worked closely with Rollins in the past on issues important to both of their neighboring counties. Harvey said he is confident Rollins will utilize his experience and expertise to fight in Congress for the best interests of the constituents of Florida’s third district.

”I’ve worked with Gavin on many regional issues,” said Harvey. “I know his heart. He is a servant leader who deeply cares about the people he represents. He understands the issues and he works hard. Rollins has deep roots in Putnam County. He lived in the community throughout much of his childhood and his parents currently reside in Melrose, which is in the western part of the county.

Gavin Rollins Praises Trump’s China Policy Changes

Says the communist country’s aggression must be stopped.

Keystone Heights, Fla., May 29 – Republican Congressional candidate Gavin Rollins today praised the Trump Administration’s changes in China policy, saying a lack of aggressive action to stop the communist-led country’s takeover of Hong Kong could have the same results as the west’s failure to stop Hitler early on.

“There were many opportunities in the 1930s to stop Hitler’s aggression,” said Rollins. “We allowed Germany to rearm, a direct violation of the Treaty of Versailles, hoping for the best. But appeasement only makes the aggressor stronger. They know they can get away with it, so they get more aggressive. Similarly, Chinese president Xi Jinping and the communist leadership have made no secret of their global ambitions. If we allow China to trounce international agreements and takeover Hong Kong, what’s to stop them from taking over Taiwan next?”

President Trump today announced several policy moves targeting China in retaliation for Beijing’s actions to tighten control over Hong Kong. This followed a statement earlier in the week by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that Hong Kong no longer had significant autonomy under Chinese rule, a violation of an international agreement put in place when Hong Kong was turned over to China in 1997.

Rollins, a Clay County Commissioner, high school history teacher, and captain in the Florida National Guard, is seeking to replace the retiring Congressman Ted Yoho in Florida’s third Congressional district.

Rollins Says Trump Should Consider Sanctions Against China

Congressional candidate Rollins says crackdown on Hong Kong is unacceptable.

Keystone Heights, Fla., May 27, 2020 – Republican congressional candidate Gavin Rollins today called on the Trump administration to consider all options to punish China if it continues its crackdown on Hong Kong.

“The world economy is in shambles because of the communist Chinese leadership’s lies and deceptions about the coronavirus,” said Rollins. “Now they’re using the crisis they created as an excuse to take away Hong Kong’s guaranteed freedom and autonomy.”

Rollins said sweeping national security laws which the Chinese leadership plans to implement in the former British colony go against the ‘one-country, two-systems’ constitutional principle agreed to when Hong Kong became a region of China in 1997.

“The Trump administration has a range of options to punish China if it continues to threaten Hong Kong’s autonomy,” said Rollins. “They could impose controls on transactions and freeze assets of Chinese officials and businesses, or they could strike a major blow to the communists by declaring Hong Kong is not autonomous from China and therefore doesn’t qualify for favored nation status.”

The state department is due to certify Hong Kong’s autonomy under the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act President Trump signed into law last year. A decision not to certify would allow the U.S. to reconsider Hong Kong’s special trade status.

“A negative determination on Hong Kong’s autonomy would undermine it as a financial hub and have serious economic impact,” said Rollins. “That would be a dramatic step, but the Communist Chinese government leaders need to know we will consider all options to punish their rogue behavior. Hong Kong cannot remain a financial hub if China takes over.”

Rollins, a Clay County Commissioner, high school teacher and captain in the Florida National Guard, is seeking to replace retiring Congressman Ted Yoho in Florida’s third congressional district.

Gavin Rollins Vows to Make China Pay for Coronavirus

There should be consequences, says the congressional candidate.

Keystone Heights, Fla., May 21, 2020 – Gavin Rollins, Republican candidate to replace Ted Yoho in Florida’s third congressional district, today said if China was knowingly responsible for the coronavirus there should be severe consequences.

“Many experts in the U.S. intelligence community believe the coronavirus originated in a Chinese lab, not from eating bats or other exotic animals,” said Rollins. “Whether it was due to negligence or malice China must pay if it is proven they were responsible. I will strongly support President Trump if he seeks retribution.”

According to news reports information has emerged that a low-security Wuhan virology lab that analyzed dangerous coronaviruses may have been the original source of the virus’s release and that Chinese officials tried to cover up information revealing that source. A statement issued by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence said it “will continue to rigorously examine emerging information and intelligence to determine whether the outbreak began through contact with infected animals or if it was the result of an accident at a laboratory in Wuhan.”

“Regardless of how this virus started the Communist Chinese government’s lack of transparency and failure to follow security protocols were the cause of tens of thousands of deaths around the world and trillions of dollars in losses,” said Rollins. “Those who caused this devastation must be held accountable.”

One approach to force China to pay for the losses it has caused is to strip it of sovereign immunity, a legal doctrine that protects countries from civil suits or criminal prosecution. Sens. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) are among members of Congress who have drafted legislation to remove sovereign immunity from countries if they took intentional acts to conceal or distort information about the coronavirus that led to damage to other countries. Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) has also floated waiving interest payments to China for any holdings of U.S. debt.

Gavin Rollins Activated in Florida National Guard

Congressional candidate helps Clay County COVID-19 relief effort

Friday, May 15, 2020

Keystone Heights, Fla, — Gavin Rollins, Clay County commissioner and Republican candidate for Florida’s third congressional district, was recently activated with the Florida National Guard to help the COVID-19 response in Clay County.

During his two-week activation Rollins served as the National Guard liaison, supporting Clay County relief efforts with mobile testing sites, and working with the Clay County emergency operation center responding to various community needs.

“It was an honor to be able to serve the community in my role as a captain in the Florida National Guard during this difficult time in our country,” said Rollins.

Rollins, joined the military in 2007, and has worked his way from private first class to captain. From 2016 to 2017 he was deployed to a combat zone in East Africa where he served as the senior intelligence officer for Task Force Hurricane, supporting counter terriorism operations, defending U.S. embassies, and monitoring Chinese aggression in the region.

With his activation complete, Rollins is returning to the campaign trail. “I’m encouraged and energized by the reception I’m getting from voters throughout the district,” he said.

Rollins is the only candidate in the race for Florida’s third Congressional District currently serving in the military. Other members of Congress including Rep. Mike Waltz and Rep. Adam Kingizer also serve in the National Guard.

Rollins Introduces Buy American Policy in Clay County

Wednesday, May 13, 2020

Keystone Heights, Fla, — Gavin Rollins, Clay County commissioner and Republican candidate for Florida’s third congressional district, yesterday proposed a policy requiring Clay County to prioritize American products over foreign imports. A similar proposal was introduced last week by Jacksonville City Councilman Rory Diamond. Rollins is joined by Commissioners Justin Taylor of Nassau County and Jeremiah Blocker from St. Johns County, who have also declared their support for this policy.

“Clay County’s annual budget is over $300 million,” said Rollins “Cumulatively, local governments in the U.S. spend $2 trillion a year. It defies logic that we would be spending these hard-earned taxpayer dollars overseas, especially on products made in communist China, when we can invest right here at home.”

The “Buy American” policy requires that U.S.-made products which are within 5 percent of the price of products purchased outside of the country be given preference by local governments. At least six other Florida counties are considering similar legislation.

“Buying American products will help restart the U.S. economy, which has been devastated by COVID-19,” said Rollins.

Rollins also plans to introduce a policy to extend the federal ban on Chinese telecommunications companies to Clay County’s purchases.

“Communist China is the greatest threat to world freedom since the Soviet Union,” he said. “Chinese companies build equipment that allows it to tap into telecommunications networks across the country. We’re pushing back and saying we won’t allow this intrusion in our technology at the local level.”

In addition to his role as Clay County commissioner, Rollins is a high school history teacher, and captain in the Florida National Guard. As an intelligence officer Rollins was deployed to a combat zone in the Horn of Africa 2016 through 2017. One of his responsibilities was to monitor the Chinese Communist threat in the region. He is running to replace the retiring Congressman Ted Yoho.
