Keystone Heights, Fla, — Gavin Rollins, Clay County commissioner and Republican candidate for Florida’s third congressional district, was recently activated with the Florida National Guard to help the COVID-19 response in Clay County.
During his two-week activation Rollins served as the National Guard liaison, supporting Clay County relief efforts with mobile testing sites, and working with the Clay County emergency operation center responding to various community needs.
“It was an honor to be able to serve the community in my role as a captain in the Florida National Guard during this difficult time in our country,” said Rollins.
Rollins, joined the military in 2007, and has worked his way from private first class to captain. From 2016 to 2017 he was deployed to a combat zone in East Africa where he served as the senior intelligence officer for Task Force Hurricane, supporting counter terriorism operations, defending U.S. embassies, and monitoring Chinese aggression in the region.
With his activation complete, Rollins is returning to the campaign trail. “I’m encouraged and energized by the reception I’m getting from voters throughout the district,” he said.
Rollins is the only candidate in the race for Florida’s third Congressional District currently serving in the military. Other members of Congress including Rep. Mike Waltz and Rep. Adam Kingizer also serve in the National Guard.
